Expert tips, well maintenance advice, and news from the Herr Well Drilling family.
Notes from the Rig
This is where the Herr family posts what is going on at the shop and in the field — seasonal reminders for well owners around Dousman and the Lake Country, notes on the crews and equipment, and the occasional piece of company history. Four generations have drilled wells in Waukesha County since 1964, and a fair amount of what we know about the ground under this part of Wisconsin only ever gets passed along on a job site. Some of it belongs here instead.
If you own a private well in Southeast Wisconsin, the timing of most problems is predictable. Spring is when frost damage and pressure complaints show up after the ground thaws. Summer is when high demand — irrigation, livestock, a full house — exposes a well that has quietly been losing yield for years. Late fall is the sensible time to have a pump checked, before a failure turns into a service call in January. Water quality testing for bacteria and nitrates is worth doing annually regardless of season.
If you have a question that is not answered here, the FAQs page covers what we get asked most, and the service pages go into detail on well drilling, well service and repair, water well development, agricultural wells, and directional drilling. For anything specific to your property, calling the office is faster than reading — we return calls within 24 hours.
